THE STORY
January 2013.
An american journalist named Laura Poitras received an mysterious e-mail from a unknown source, which hide under the name Citizenfour.
The source claimed to have interesting information about the surveillance system of the United States, the NSA.
After establishing a secured communication, Laura and CitizenFour exchange many messages and the journalist got to know this mysterious person better.
His name is Edward Snowden. He was an NSA contractor who had access to all classified documents at the agency.
He had recently leaved the United States to hide in China. Laura Poitras flied to Hong Kong with two other journalists to interview Snowden. He was about to tell the world a secret that will change everything.
In June 2013, The Guardian started to release several stories, which proved the existence of a massive scale surveillance system run by the NSA and other intelligence to gather information on thousand citizens around the world without judicial supervision. The new soon spread all over the world and Snowden became the public enemy of the U.S government.
THE MOVIE
Snowden the movie is a movie directed by the famous biopic director Oliver starring Joseph Gordon Levitt as Edward Snowden, with Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto and Tom Wilkinson.
The movie deals with the life of Edward Snowden, from his career in the U.S army to his major leaks about NSA's massive surveillance program, in June 2013.
For the communication campaign, the movie team worked with a canadian agency named Denstubos. The production company of star Joseph Gordon Levitt was also implicated in the promotion of the film.
